Bacteriostatic Composite Carbon Block Filter, Silver Impregnated: Inhibits the growth or reproduction of bacteria (Please see below for more detail)
Bacteriostatic Composite Carbon Block Filter is the next step above the CTOP (Colour, Taste, Odour Premium) and serves well as a primary single filter or even as the first stage in a series of filters.
We prefer the Bacteriostatic Carbon Block Filter Silver Impregnated above the CTO and CTOP due to the extra protection and microbiological safety it offers over the extended life of the filter as it is this bacterial growth, sediment and micro algae colonisation that limits the life and safe use of POU (Point Of Use) filters, the peace of mind that a safe 12 month or longer is possible by this added protection while still maintaining the Premium Carbon Block Blend of a CTOP (Chlorine Taste Odour Premium)
This .5 micron Bacteriostatic Composite Carbon Block Filter is also fine enough to block Cryptosporidium and Giardia
Rated also to remove chlorine and odour plus deliver the sweet taste to water that 100% coconut carbon block are known for.
**This filter is an excellent choice to be used as a pre filter for a gravity system where sediment is an issue that causes premature cleaning intervals found in some suburbs
* Chlorine Reduction rated in Gallons over life of filter (1 US gallon = AUS 3.78 ltrs)
This carbon block cartridge is tested and certified by NSF International against NSF/ANSI Standard 42 for material requirements only.
PURE carbon block cartridges are Tested and certified by WQA against NSF/ANSI 42 material requirement only.

Silver-impregnated coconut shell activated carbon specifically designed for bacteriostatic properties and trace removal. It is manufactured from coconut shells by high-temperature steam activation under rigidly controlled conditions. The silver impregnation of carbon imparts bacteriostatic properties that inhibit bacterial growth on the carbon filter media. Silver exhibits a self-sterilizing property called the oligodynamic effect that, although not fully understood, is recognized as an effective method for controlling microbial growth.
The oligodynamic effect (Greek: oligos = few, Greek: dynamis = force) was discovered in 1893 by the Swiss Karl Wilhelm von Nägeli as a toxic effect of metal ions on viruses and living cells e.g. algae, moulds, spores, fungi, prokaryotic and eukaryotic microorganisms, even in relatively low concentrations. [1] This antimicrobial effect is shown by ions of mercury, silver, copper, iron, lead, zinc, bismuth, gold, aluminium, and other metals.
